The Scottish Taekwon-Do Championships on the 12th of June was hosted by Master Nicholls. The tournament itself was situated at the excellent venue of the DALKEITH Sports Centre, Edinburgh, Scotland
This was the first Imperial Open to be held in Scotland and we had over 250 entrants. The competition was strongly supported by the host association, the Imperial Taekwon-Do Association.
The competition started with an introduction video "I must say the Video made your eyes water" The technical ability shown in the demonstrations was awsome!
Straight after the demo was another inspiring speech by Master Nicholls,"If you didn't feel part of it all, you did after the introduction"
We all then got under way with some fine demonstrations of paterns throughout the Junior & adult divisions & culminating in a number of performances from the finalists that showed some real brilliance & flair. Cheryl Cooke, Thomas Pearce and Joel Wilson entering there first Imperial Taekwon-Do tournement demonstrated good all round ability and over come the nerves very well.
The competition smoothly progressed to the sparring divisions, with Danny Welland & Paul Cain meeting up yet again in the semi finals. Sabum Cain evetually lost out to Lee Hollingsworth in the final, but picked up some worthy experience from such a fine fighter.
The weekend was very enjoyable and much fun was had by all. The only complaint is we all have to wait another 12 months for the next one!

Martial arts reading – before you begin
Do you know why you want to take up martial arts? At Spirit Taekwondo Academies, the experts believe that there are some very straightforward reasons why people choose to take up martial arts. Reading the thoughts of these experienced practitioners and trainers could help you to make up your mind about which area you want to study:
• For fitness – for many people, fitness is the main reason for taking up martial arts. Reading what some people say about these sports, it’s easy to see why. Martial arts training is physically tough and is a great way to get fit. Many people train several times a week, and martial arts offer a whole-body workout.
• For the mind – martial arts may be very physical but they all usually have a spiritual side too. Martial arts reading materials show that many forms of martial arts are closely connected with the culture and beliefs of those people who developed, practised and trained in these arts, and the spiritual element draws many new people to the discipline.
• For self-defence – of course, self-defence is an important reason for considering martial arts. Reading books and watching films can show the extreme side of martial arts, but the truth is that you will learn how to defend yourself if you have to. For many people, this is the most important reason to take up martial arts.
