I began training in 1982 with the Republic of Ireland Taekwon-Do Association which is part of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF). I have fond memories of the lessons we used to have in that cold, draughty community hall. It was there my fondness for Taekwon-Do began and I reached the grade of 4th Kup before moving to England with my Father.
After settling in west London I began the search for another Taekwon-Do school. The ones I found locally were okay but just not quite the same, some were more like Karate and some were more like kick boxing. I trained at a few for a while and even experimented with some of the other Martial Arts, taking a few gradings at each before moving on with my search.

Then work became the main focus and with work came travel and a long break from Taekwon-Do, until I ended up in Reading where, around 1998, I renewed the search for a place to train. I am happy to say that the passion I had for Taekwon-Do as a child has been re-kindled with Spirit Taekwon-Do Academies where I train along with my son and daughter. Work and travel are no longer an interference and and my focus has returned to Taekwon-Do. Earlier this year I attained ITF Black Belt, 1st Degree status. And, as I proudly tied the belt around my waist, the realization began to sink in that this is just the beginning...
